Our Story

We are an organization founded in 1996 by the then Consul General in San Antonio, Ambassador Carlos Manuel Sada, along with community leaders such as Tom Frost, Charles Kilpatrick, and Verónica Salazar Escobedo, among others.

The creation of this Council came after the approval of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), with the purpose of highlighting the importance of the ties between the United States and Mexico, especially the significant connection between San Antonio and Mexico.

Now, more than ever, SAMFCO reaffirms its relevance and commitment to the community.

Our mission is to support students of Mexican and Mexican-American origin while also collaborating with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Antonio to promote community programs and cultural activities. These include art exhibitions, food festivals, workshops, and special celebrations such as International Women’s Day and Children’s Day. SAMFCO also actively participates in civic events that honor Mexican traditions, including 5 de Mayo, El Grito de Independencia, Día de Muertos, and more.

SAMFCO helps facilitate community programs led by the Consulate General of Mexico in San Antonio in partnership with local organizations. Our goal is to empower the Mexican and Mexican-American community by providing access to essential resources and information in education, health, technology, and financial literacy. These programs became an essential resource during the pandemic and have since benefited tens of thousands of individuals.

Community Programs We Support:

  • Ventanilla de Salud (Health Services Window)
  • Ventanilla de Asesoría Financiera (Financial Advisory Window)
  • Ventanilla de Orientación Educativa (Educational Guidance Window)
  • Ventanilla de Información (Information Window)
  • IME Becas (Scholarship Program)

Through these initiatives, SAMFCO continues to strengthen the connection between San Antonio and Mexico, ensuring greater opportunities and support for our community.
